Next round of rain showers develops Tuesday with more to come

Clouds thicken up and rain showers develop Tuesday into Tuesday night. More rain is on the way for Thursday and Friday before a drier upcoming weekend. 

Our next chance of rain develops Tuesday with more later this week 

After a frosty start to the day up north, it’ll be a cool one as clouds thicken up ahead of our next disturbance Tuesday. Afternoon highs will be in the 50s for most, a bit below normal for us in southern Minnesota for a change.

Look for scattered on-and-off rain showers Tuesday into Tuesday night across southern Minnesota. Some showers will make their way into northern Minnesota but this will be mainly a southern Minnesota event.

Rainfall amounts will be modest, in the quarter-inch to half-inch range across mostly central and southern Minnesota with northeast Minnesota being largely missed. 

Wednesday will see clouds linger with a few remaining spotty morning showers. Temperatures will again be mostly in the 50s, though far southern Minnesota will see some 60s

More rain is on the way for Thursday and Friday as a slow-moving, upper-level low on the west coast makes its way into the region providing a few waves of potential rainfall, though activity looks spotty.

Unfortunately, the Thursday and Friday rainfall doesn’t look particularly significant as much of the state could end up in the dry slot of the system — a wedge of drier air with rain to the north and east. Three different forecast models show just a couple tenths of an inch or less in central or southern Minnesota, but northern Minnesota may see more and those areas are drier.

That system looks to mostly exit by Saturday, allowing for the return of sunshine and dry weather for most of the upcoming weekend.
