Snow showers are wrapping up Saturday evening, but behind the departing system comes a blast of much colder air — the coldest of the season so far. By Sunday morning, wind chills will dip into the single digits.

Alberta clipper departs, leaving chilly airmass

An Alberta clipper is on its way out through the Missouri River Valley, leaving behind a much colder airmass. Temperatures will tumble Saturday night into Sunday morning, with wind chills dipping into the single digits by Sunday morning. 

The actual air temperature will drop into the upper teens Saturday night, but with northwest winds increasing to 10–20 mph, it will feel much colder by Sunday morning. This will be the coldest airmass to settle over the region since late March.

This latest cold snap will extend well to the south, reaching into the southeastern United States and breaking multiple record low temperatures. For some locations, these will be the coldest early-November readings experienced in decades. 

Florida has the potential for cold-shocked iguanas to fall from trees after losing blood flow when temperatures get too cold. Good thing we don’t have that problem here in Minnesota.

After a chilly start, Sunday’s temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing across the state. 

Chilly temperatures linger on Monday, with highs in the low to mid-30s. However, as a high-pressure system departs midweek, a return flow will bring warmer air by the end of the week. Highs could climb into the 50s and even approach 60 degrees by Thursday and Friday.
