Scattered rain, snow showers Tuesday morning south, decreasing clouds for afternoon

Scattered rain and snow showers will dissipate Tuesday morning in southern Minnesota with decreasing clouds Tuesday afternoon. Afternoon highs will be in the 40s and 30s. 

Wintry mix ends Tuesday morning south with decreasing afternoon clouds 

Scattered rain and snow showers will continue to track east across southern Minnesota Tuesday morning, gradually diminishing by late morning across southeastern Minnesota.

Some areas will see a slushy coating of snow on grassy surfaces. Most areas in southern and southeastern Minnesota will see well under 1 inch of any accumulation. Most surface temperatures are above freezing so most roadways should be just wet.

Springfield, west of Sleepy Eye in southwestern Minnesota, did show a little slush on grassy surfaces as of 8 a.m. Tuesday morning:

Northern Minnesota will see more sunshine Tuesday with southern Minnesota largely staying locked in low clouds and central Minnesota seeing clearing skies.

Afternoon highs will be in the low 40s for most of the state with parts of southeastern and northeastern Minnesota in the upper 30s. Those readings are actually pretty close to normal for the date.

Overnight lows Tuesday night will fall into the 20s and low 30s across the state under partially clear skies.

Northern Minnesota could see a few rain and snow showers Wednesday into Thursday as a weak clipper system grazes the state. Otherwise, there aren’t any major systems this week. 

Parts of northern Minnesota could see anywhere from one-tenth to as much as one-half inch of rainfall in isolated pockets Wednesday into Wednesday night.
