Many music listeners let the algorithms of a streaming service decide the kind of music they listen to. MPR News’s sister station The Current still relies on DJs to curate the songs it plays over the airwaves.
MPR News All Things Considered host Clay Masters talked with The Current’s Midday host Zach McCormick about songs that stuck in 2025 and why the importance of a year-end list still matters in the new era of streaming.
The Current will broadcast its listener-voted top 89 songs Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. It will rebroadcast on January 1 at 5 a.m. and 2 p.m.
