Some community organizers express caution with end of ICE surge and the work ahead

As local and state leaders expressed cautious optimism about immigration enforcement surge ending in Minnesota, some organizations that work with and represent immigrants are also expressing their skepticism. 

That includes the Immigrant Defense Network. 

“What we're telling our constitution observers, and what we're telling neighbors, is to remain cautious as this operation winds down,” said Edwin Torres Desantiago, a manager with the Immigrant Defense Network.

“We need to be diligent. We need to stay united, and we got to make sure that we are holding community who are now left dealing with the traumatic effects over the last 73 days.” 

Desantiago explained while they acknowledge the validity of this announcement, the focus for his organization will turn to the community.  

“We can finally start deciding how we're going to assess the damage for my neighbors and small businesses — that process hasn't started, and now we are able to finally get to a point where we can assess the real damage,” said Desantiago.
