The Minnesota State Patrol says four people died and another person was seriously injured Wednesday night in a crash along U.S. Highway 169 in central Minnesota.
It happened just before 7 p.m. along the highway in Mille Lacs County, near Shakopee Lake Road — about five miles northwest of Onamia.
The Patrol said a northbound car with just the driver aboard crossed the center line of the two-lane highway and struck an oncoming car carrying four people. Road conditions were dry at the time.
Authorities said four people died in the crash, and a fifth person was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol has not released the names of the crash victims.
It was the second fatal crash in as many days along that stretch of Highway 169. On Tuesday morning about five miles to the northwest, a 50-year-old woman from Garrison died when her car lost control in icy conditions and was struck by an oncoming SUV on the highway near 460th Street.
