'Language is a need': Ojibwe, Dakota speakers work to preserve, revive Indigenous languages

The fifth annual Dakota and Ojibwe Language Symposium was held at Jackpot Junction Casino in Morton, Minn. hosted by the Lower Sioux Indian Community on Feb. 25-27, 2026. Over a hundred people came together to discuss efforts to preserve, celebrate and revitalize and preserve the Dakota and Ojibwe languages.
