Winter storm warnings continue in northern Minnesota

The first of three systems will produce snow across central and northern Minnesota Monday night and then rain and snow late Tuesday into Tuesday night. There are additional chances coming up. 

Multiple systems to bring rain, snow over the coming days 

It’s quite the contrast across Minnesota as cooler air continues to flow across the state. From low 70s in southeastern Minnesota to the teens in northwestern Minnesota. 

Overnight lows will see quite the contrast as well from the northwest to southeast corners of the state as cooler air continues to settle into the region and through the week. 

Northwestern Minnesota will see temperatures dip into the single digits while southern Minnesota stays above freezing.

It’s going to be an active week as the jet stream roars overhead from the Pacific straight through into the Midwest. The first disturbance will produce snow showers Monday night for north-central and northern Minnesota.

This first round of snow will produce about an inch across a swath from Fergus Falls, Morris through Little Falls, Brainerd up to Duluth and parts of the North Shore.

We’ll then see additional rain and snow showers develop across central Minnesota Tuesday afternoon into the overnight, quickly transitioning to mostly snow. 

This is when central and southern Minnesota — including the Twin Cities — into western Wisconsin will see snowfall of a coating up to a slushy inch or two.

Temperatures Tuesday will still be warmer than normal but cooler than the last several days, mostly in the 40s and 30s.

After some lingering snow showers and clouds early Wednesday, we’ll see decreasing clouds with afternoon sun, melting much of the slush we see Tuesday night.
