A St. Cloud State University student is accused of threatening to shoot members of a fraternity that rejected him. 

St. Cloud police responded Monday afternoon to the university after a student told campus public safety officers that 29-year-old Romello Lloyd had threatened him.

According to the criminal complaint, the student said Lloyd walked up to him in the skyway and told him he was “jumped” three weeks ago, and he believed someone from the student's fraternity was responsible. Lloyd reportedly said he was not accepted as a pledge into the fraternity. 

The complaint states that Lloyd told the student, "If I find out who sent them, I will shoot them, even if it is you."

Police found Lloyd in class. He denied making comments about shooting anyone. The complaint states that Lloyd had a bag with a loaded handgun, ammunition and replica guns inside.

He was charged Tuesday in Stearns County District Court with two felony counts of threatening violence and two gross misdemeanor counts of unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Lloyd has been found incompetent to stand trial multiple times in Hennepin County. As a result, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

St. Cloud State University President Gregory Tomso sent an email to the campus community on Tuesday, offering students, faculty and staff crisis support and counseling. Tomso said the university is also providing support to members of the fraternity, and Lloyd has been prohibited from returning to campus.

While some media reports gave the impression that the student was openly wielding a gun in front of other students, that wasn’t the case, Tomso said. If he had been, the university would have issued a campus-wide emergency alert, he said.
