Some 300 group homes are licensed to operate in the city of Brooklyn Park. And after 

 city leaders are questioning how well some of these taxpayer-funded businesses are caring for their vulnerable residents. 

At the start of the 2026 session, mayors and other local officials put together a legislative proposal to prevent the state Health Department from licensing new group homes within 650 feet of any existing group home. 

MPR News host Clay Masters spoke with state Rep. Brion Curran, DFL-White Bear Lake, who opposes the group home licensing limits.
