A recent blast of cold air is creating havoc for loons, causing some to fall out of the sky and become injured and grounded. These "fallouts" occur when migrating loons develop ice on their bodies.
MPR News host Clay Masters spoke with Walter Piper of The Loon Project, a long-term scientific investigation of territoriality, breeding ecology and population dynamics of common loons in the Upper Midwest about the falling birds.
