Warmer Sunday with soaking rains on the way

There will some spotty to scattered showers Sunday, but most of the day will be mainly dry and warmer. Rain returns from southwest to northeast by evening into Monday and Monday night.

A soaking spring rainfall on the way

Temperatures will be a little warmer Sunday in southern Minnesota ahead of the next system. Highs will range from the 60s to near 70 degrees in southern Minnesota with 50s north.

There will be some scattered showers Sunday morning, especially in central and northern Minnesota, then a midday gap with more isolated to spotty showers. Steady rain moves in from southwest to northeast late Sunday afternoon and evening. We’ll have waves of rain and thunder tonight into Monday and Monday night.

Much of the state will see up to 1 to 2 inches of rainfall with higher amounts locally. Southwest Minnesota is in severe drought, so this is a welcome rainfall.

There is a slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe storms Monday in the southeast corner of the state. Most thunderstorms will be of the “garden variety.”

Temperatures will be generally cooler than normal this week — mostly in the 50s — but will warm up again by next weekend. Temps in the 70s return by late next weekend.
