Chilly night gives way to a more May-like warmup

Another round of frost is possible Thursday night across parts of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, but the bigger weather story is the gradual warmup that’s finally beginning to take shape heading into next week.

Frost concerns continue Thursday night

Another chilly night is expected as overnight lows flirt with freezing once again, particularly across western Wisconsin and far eastern Minnesota. Because of this, another frost advisory has been issued for portions of the area.

Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to low 30s across northern and central Minnesota while the Twin Cities region should bottom out in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees. Some of the colder outer suburbs could still see patchy frost develop by early Friday morning.

Friday will bring a much more comfortable feel across the region with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 50s to low 60s across northern Minnesota and reaching the low 70s farther south. It will be a welcome change after the prolonged stretch of chilly spring weather.

Later Friday evening into early Saturday morning, a weak cold front will slide through the region. A few isolated showers may develop across west-central Minnesota during the evening with the best chance for light rain arriving overnight into early Saturday morning across central Minnesota into western Wisconsin.

Rainfall totals look minimal, with most locations receiving only a few hundredths of an inch at best.

Behind the front, slightly cooler air returns for the weekend. However, highs will settle back into the 50s and 60s, closer to average, with breezy northwest winds.
