Former Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze locked up the Minnesota Republican Party endorsement in the race for U.S. Senate Friday night on a sixth ballot.
Schwarze broke the threshold to clinch the endorsement over former sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya, with 62 percent of the vote. Six candidates initially entered the race.
Schwarze said he would continue the fight to the November election and would work to support candidates down the ballot.
“You don't have to compromise on values. We can hold life. We can support our Second Amendment rights. We can support our First Amendment rights. We don't have to compromise on this race,” he said in his acceptance speech.

Tafoya has said she expected to move to a primary race in August and bring the contest before a broader pool of Republicans. She didn’t immediately say whether that was still her plan Friday following the result.
Republican delegates endorsed Nate George for state auditor with a single round of voting, rejecting 2022 gubernatorial candidate Dr. Scott Jensen. Tad Jude won the party endorsement for secretary of state after two rounds of voting. Earlier in the day trial lawyer Ron Schutz won the party’s endorsement for attorney general after running unopposed.
The convention is expected to endorse a candidate for governor on Saturday.
