A 28-year-old man has been charged with shooting and killing another man at an Eid al-Adha prayer service in Shakopee last week.
According to charging documents, Mohamed Abdirizak Rage allegedly shot and killed 26-year-old Khalid Ibrahim Abdi outside the Canterbury Park Expo Center on May 27. Prosecutors charged Rage with second-degree murder and unlawful gun possession.
Rage turned himself into Shakopee Police the morning after the shooting. Prosecutors have not stated a motive in the shooting.
Surveillance video shows the pair getting into an altercation inside the lobby of the building and then a physical fight in the parking lot. Witnesses told police Rage was telling Abdi he wanted to fight him, and Abdi said he didn’t want to fight.

Rage then allegedly fired two shots at Abdi and fled the scene. Abdi was transported to HCMC and died at the hospital.
Police said Abdi’s wife found Rage's phone after he fled the scene and handed it over to police. A GoFundMe for Abdi’s family stated that he and his wife were expecting their first child.
Bart Andersen, executive director for American Council for State, County and Municipal Employees Council 5, said Abdi was a local organizer with the union.
“Khalid will be forever remembered for his tenacious organizing spirit, his warm and inviting presence and his unyielding passion and drive to fight for the working-class and all historically marginalized communities,” Andersen said in a statement.
According to court records, Rage had been convicted of third-degree assault in 2021 after beating another man with a crowbar, which made him ineligible to possess a firearm.
