Storms are possible Friday. A severe thunderstorm watch is posted across much of central and southern Minnesota until 11 p.m.

The weekend looks lovely. More rain arrives Monday with strong or severe storms Wednesday.

Strong storms possible Friday; lovely weekend

Friday is the third and final day of our active weather pattern, which includes a bunch of thunderstorms.

Storms will likely start to dive southeasterly toward the Twin Cities a little closer to dusk. Be ready between Duluth and Rochester for some strong to severe storms Friday afternoon and early evening.

We then go into a two-day stretch of lovely weather and higher heat this weekend. Expect morning temperatures to be pleasant. Humidity takes a little bit of a back seat.

A fire weather watch is in place for Sunday in parts of northern Minnesota. A campfire ban remains in effect for the Boundary Waters.

A good soaking rain arrives Monday. It will move up from Iowa and could linger for much of the day. It’ll move slowly and ease drought conditions, although drought remains a concern.

The weather could become more unsettled into next week. Tuesday through Thursday could be a little bit on the stormy side with high heat.

We’ll have to watch out Wednesday for a possible mesoscale convective system, a large bowing section of storms that can often be severe.

We can’t predict the exact location quite yet. Most of Minnesota is already on alert for the severe weather potential around Wednesday.

The other looming story is how much heat could develop given the stormy and more humid pattern. Temperatures in the 90s are possible.
