New memorial honors the 218 mineworkers who died underground in Ely’s iron ore mines

The historic Pioneer Mine in Ely, the last underground iron ore mine to close in Ely, in 1967. The Ely Arts and Heritage Center is unveiling a Miners Memorial at the site to honor the 218 mineworkers who lost their lives.
