Anti-violence workers in Minnesota intervene in disputes, respond to shootings and build trust in neighborhoods, but the federal immigration surge earlier this year put them at a disadvantage. 

Now as summer begins, many violence interruption teams are scrambling to regain their footing.

MPR News host Clay Masters spoke with Josiah Bates, a reporter for The Trace, a media group that investigates gun violence in America. Bates has covered how the surge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents changed the daily work of violence interruption groups in Minneapolis.
