Beyond 250 years: Minnesota River flows through time and history

The Minnesota River flows through Bloomington, Minn., on Thursday. The river has long been central to Dakota life and culture, and Minnesota takes its name from the Dakota phrase “Mni Sota Makoce,” commonly translated as “the land where the waters reflect the sky.”
