Heat wave puts new stress on Minnesota’s livestock producers

Inside of a pig barn. Pigs are packed in closely through many rectangular pens.
Pigs are kept in a facility, away from the sun, at Robert Roelofs's farm in Garden City, Minn., during summer 2024. Roelofs expects the grueling heat this summer to drive up his costs as the farm will need to keep the pigs ventilated and cool.
