‘Unhealthy’ air quality expected in eastern Minnesota through Monday afternoon due to wildfire smoke

Wednesday will bring a day of cooler-than-normal temperatures and comfortable dew points again. Thursday and Friday should remain pleasant before it heats up again.

A couple more pleasant days before heat returns

It’s a downright cool start to the day for a change.

Morning lows were in the 40s in northeastern Minnesota with most of the state seeing 50s. Brimson dipped to 36-degrees early Wednesday, down from a high of 94 last week. 

Embarrass, typically our cold spot, saw a morning low temperature of 38 degrees. The town was as hot as 96 degrees last week! 

Afternoon highs will be cooler than normal for most of the state by a few degrees, mostly in the 70s. Dew points will be comfortable in the 50s, even falling into the 40s for some. Skies will be partly cloudy. 

We’ll have another comfortable overnight with lows dropping again into the 50s for most under mainly clear skies. 

Temperatures start to increase again for Thursday and Friday but dew points should remain decently comfortable in the 50s. 

Those dew points will increase this weekend just as the heat also returns. Expect the muggy air to stick around into next week mostly. 

Already Friday afternoon we’ll likely see some highs near 90 degrees in the Red River Valley. Those highs in the 90s will spread across most of western, central and southern Minnesota for Saturday into at least early next week.

There will be some periodic, at least spotty storm chances as this time we’ll be on the northern edge of the heat dome, which will be centered more around Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado instead of right over us like last week. 

The first such chance should arrive for northern Minnesota late Thursday night into Friday and Friday night. A statewide chance is possible Sunday into Monday. Confidence in the timing and placement of these storms is low at this point.
