Walz, other Minnesota officials to give update on Boundary Waters wildfires

Gov. Tim Walz and other state leaders provided an update Wednesday morning on the wildfires burning in northeastern Minnesota.

Walz will speak along with officials from the Department of Public Safety, Minnesota National Guard and Department of Natural Resources.

The briefing comes as recent rainfall and cooler weather — along with the ongoing work of hundreds of firefighters — have brought containment of the Boundary Waters wildfires to more than 50 percent.

But officials caution that there is still a lot of work to be done, and the large fires will likely continue burning into the fall.

With fire activity relatively calm in recent days, more Boundary Waters wilderness entry points reopened Wednesday.
