Gov. Tim Walz and other state leaders are scheduled to provide an update Wednesday morning around 10:45 a.m. on the wildfires burning in northeastern Minnesota.

Walz will speak along with officials from the Department of Public Safety, Minnesota National Guard and Department of Natural Resources.

The briefing comes as recent rainfall and cooler weather — along with the ongoing work of hundreds of firefighters — 

 of the Boundary Waters wildfires to more than 50 percent.

But officials caution that there is still a lot of work to be done, and the large fires will likely continue burning into the fall.
