Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order on Tuesday, banning copper and nickel mining near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This was shortly after Congress and the Trump administration ended a prohibition on such mining.

Walz has previously argued that bypassing environmental laws and regulations could set a dangerous precedent for future governors.

MPR News host Emily Bright spoke with Briana Bierschbach, a politics and government reporter for the Star Tribune, about how Walz’s stance on the mining issue is an example of how his style of governing has changed over his time in office.
