September started warm in Minnesota with daily average temperatures in many locations running 5 to 9 degrees above normal. Eleven counties reported at least one daily maximum temperature of 90 degrees or higher.
That’s been a trend for more than a decade: 11 of the last 15 Septembers have started out warmer than normal during the first week of the month.
Drought conditions are also plaguing much of the state, although significant rain should fall later this weekend, meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley told MPR News.
”It looks like we’re going to have widespread chances for precipitation,” he said. “We need to have that be persistent as we head into the fall season if we want to snap out of this drought.”
