Former Minnesota state trooper sentenced to 27 years on child sexual abuse charges

A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced a former Minnesota state trooper to 27 years in prison for creating and distributing child sex abuse images.
Jeremy Plonski pleaded guilty last fall to federal charges of producing and distributing child pornography, after FBI agents in Texas found videos of him sexually assaulting a baby. In some of the videos, Plonski could be seen wearing his uniform and sidearm.
The 31-year-old admitted that he made around two dozen similar videos in 2023 and shared at least one through a messaging app.
The 27-year sentence is near the top end of the range in Plonski’s plea deal. He also was sentenced to 15 years of supervised release after his prison term.

“This defendant took an oath to protect the public, but he instead committed one of the most abhorrent offenses imaginable. Today’s sentence represents my office’s commitment to protect vulnerable children and the cooperation among federal and local law enforcement,” Daniel Rosen, the U.S. attorney for Minnesota, said in a statement following the sentencing.
“Protecting the vulnerable is our duty. Anyone who violates that duty has no place in this organization or in our profession. We are grateful for the work that went into this investigation and for the accountability that followed,” Col. Christina Bogojevic, chief of the Minnesota State Patrol, said in a statement.
At the time of Plonski’s guilty plea last fall, the State Patrol said he had been terminated from the agency.
