Warm Thursday ahead of soaking rains Friday
We have areas of fog and patchy drizzle across central and north-central Minnesota, especially with lingering low clouds south. Those clouds should gradually decrease with some afternoon sun.
Afternoon highs range from the low 70s south to the mid-60s north Thursday afternoon with light winds.
Clouds will increase again overnight with showers and thunderstorms developing late Thursday night and persisting on and off into much of Friday and Friday night. Some of that rain could be quite heavy at times.

Much of central and southern Minnesota into Iowa and Wisconsin will see a broad area of at least 1 to 2 inches of rain with a narrow area of heavier rainfall potentially setting up. Some spots could see in excess of 4 inches of total rainfall Friday, especially southeastern Minnesota.
There’s a slight risk of excessive rainfall forecast from NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center. Despite drought conditions, that much rainfall could trigger some flood watches.
Most models hint at a narrow area of more than 4 inches of rain developing. Where this band sets up will be key. Forecast models range from central Minnesota into northern Iowa.
It will be difficult to forecast precisely until the rain has developed and is in place. Dry air sneaking in from the east could also reduce rainfall totals in some areas.
Quite a bit of cloud cover will likely linger into the weekend but we should see some peeks of sunshine. Temperatures will hover around 70 degrees for highs over the weekend, which is close to normal.
