Isanti man charged in kidnapping, sexual assault outside of Roseville office

Authorities have detained and charged a man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman last week.
Pao Yang, 41, of Isanti faces six charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and robbery. Authorities said he abducted a woman on Wednesday outside of her Roseville office, where he also works as a cleaner. They said Yang held her captive for eight hours before dropping her off near a gas station where workers called 911.
“A crime of this nature, it's really disturbing and it understandably caused a lot of concern in our community,” said Roseville Police Chief Erika Scheider Monday. “From the moment we were notified, our priority was the safety of the victim, but also moving as quickly as we could to identify a suspect. Given the nature of the crime, we deployed all available resources to this case.”
Scheider said detectives reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance footage. A break in the case came Friday, when they traced a dress Yang allegedly made the victim wear to a purchase at Target.
Authorities took Yang into custody Friday, where he remains after being arraigned Monday.
“Solving a case like this takes extraordinary effort on the part of law enforcement and we should all be grateful for the countless hours and dedication of the Roseville police department,” said Ramsey County Attorney John Choi in a statement.
“The victim’s resolve and composure enabled investigators to obtain critical information quickly, leading to the defendant’s arrest. We will do everything in our power to seek justice for the victim and our community.”
