If you’ve been enjoying this little taste of summer in October, soak it up while you can. Saturday looks like one more very warm day, with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 70s before a cold front rolls through and sends us back toward more seasonable fall weather.

We’ve got a few chances for rain in the forecast, too, so you might want to keep that umbrella handy over the next several days.

A very warm night ahead

You can leave the extra blankets tucked away Friday night. Temperatures will stay unusually mild, with overnight lows likely only dipping into the upper 50s to low 60s. That’s more like a summer night than late October.

With temperatures staying so warm overnight, we could even be talking about some record-breaking warmth. The record warm low temperature for the Twin Cities is 59 degrees, and with overnight lows currently expected to stay in the low 60s, that record could be in jeopardy.

It’ll be a warm start to Saturday, too, before our cold front moves through. Expect highs ahead of the front to warm into the 60s and 70s once again, with more seasonal 50s behind the front.

Saturday looks a little breezy, with a few chances for rain popping up throughout the day. The good news is that not everyone will see showers, and for those who do, rainfall amounts should be pretty light. Still, it might be worth tossing an umbrella in the car before heading out for your weekend plans.

Showers will develop along the front, with rain chances sticking around into Saturday evening. A few lingering showers could hang on into Sunday, but we should start to see temperatures settle closer to where they belong for this time of year.

Rain chances stick around into next week

Another weather system is expected to bring more rain to the Upper Midwest Monday into early Tuesday. Some areas farther west could pick up a pretty healthy soaking, while totals closer to home will depend on exactly how the system tracks. Overall, around and exceeding an inch of rain is possible in parts of the region, which could be just what we need to finally shake up that stubborn drought monitor report that hasn’t budged much over the past couple of weeks.

There may be another round of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday, although the details are still a little fuzzy. After a week filled with sunshine, warmth and mostly tranquil conditions, it looks like Mother Nature is ready to shake things up a bit. We’ll gladly take the rain, though, especially if it helps put a dent in our lingering dry conditions!
