A quick transition from record-warm morning lows and afternoon temperatures in the 70s to much cooler conditions behind Saturday’s cold front. Expect more seasonable temperatures into early next week, along with several chances for rain, especially a potentially soaking round across western Minnesota Monday and Monday night.
A dramatic temperature drop
Temperatures climbed into the mid-70s ahead of the cold front Saturday afternoon, creating an unseasonably warm feel for late October. However, the front is making its presence known, with readings dropping into the 40s and 50s in areas already on the cooler side.

The cold front is only part of the story. Minnesota is heading into an active weather pattern, with multiple opportunities for rain through next week.

Some lingering showers could continue across southern and eastern Minnesota into Sunday morning. Rain chances will then increase Sunday night as another weather system approaches from the west.

Monday and Monday night look especially wet across western Minnesota, where the best moisture and heaviest rainfall are expected to develop. Some locations in far western Minnesota could pick up over an inch of rain, with amounts generally decreasing farther east.
The system should gradually move north and out of the region early Tuesday, but the break in the rain may be brief. Another disturbance could bring additional showers Tuesday night into Wednesday, with more chances for precipitation possible later in the week.
Temperatures will trend cooler through the start of next week as the recent warmth gives way to more seasonable late-October conditions.
