Seven people were arrested over the weekend after allegedly breaking in to the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis.

“Early Saturday morning, the Basilica security system detected unauthorized persons inside the Basilica. Officers of the Minneapolis Police Department responded and, with assistance from our security team, located and arrested seven individuals for burglary,” Father Ralph Talbot, pastor and rector of the Basilica of St. Mary, said in a statement.

The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Saturday. Minneapolis police said the seven people arrested included three adults and four juveniles. They face potential charges of burglary, trespassing and fleeing police on foot.

There was no immediate word on what motivated the alleged break-in, and whether the suspects caused any damage. The incident remains under investigation.

The Basilica is in the midst of a multi-year major restoration project, which is slated to be complete next year.
