Before we were tracking storms, analyzing radar and talking about the forecast, the MPR News meteorologists were just kids getting dressed up for Halloween and hoping for good trick-or-treating weather!
Here’s a look back at the little ghouls behind your forecast:
We've come a long way from those childhood costumes, but one thing hasn't changed. We're still keeping a close eye on Halloween weather.
So, what tricks and treats does Mother Nature have in store for us this Saturday? Let's take a look!

What’s brewing for Halloween?
We'll have plenty of clouds around, along with a few hit-or-miss showers possible throughout the day. Moisture in the atmosphere will be running well above normal, but the ingredient we're missing is the stronger lift needed to produce widespread rainfall.
That means showers will be scattered, rather than a steady, widespread rain. Some cities may get a little damp, while others could stay completely dry.

The bottom line: A few raindrops are possible, but the weather shouldn't put too much of a damper on your Halloween plans!
How does this Halloween compare to the past?
Minnesota has certainly seen its share of tricks when it comes to Halloween weather!

According to the Minnesota DNR's State Climatology Office, the normal Halloween high temperature in the Twin Cities is around 50 degrees. But we've experienced quite the range over the years.
The treat: Halloween 1950 holds the Twin Cities record for the warmest Halloween, with a high of 83 degrees!
The trick: Halloween 1991 is one we'll never forget. A major winter storm brought 8.2 inches of snow to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport by midnight, with much more snow to come!
The wet stuff: Halloween 2024 was the wettest on record in the Twin Cities, with 1.26 inches of precipitation.
A little perspective: Measurable precipitation has occurred on Halloween in the Twin Cities only about 27 percent of the time.
And here's another interesting statistic: The last three Halloweens (2023 to 2025) all featured measurable precipitation in the Twin Cities. Let's see if 2026 can break that streak!
Our Halloween forecast: More treat than trick!
While a few showers could make an appearance Saturday, widespread rain isn't expected. Keep an eye on the sky, but don't let a few potential raindrops scare you away from the festivities. Temperatures will trend above the seasonal average in the low to upper 50s.

Whether you're heading out trick-or-treating, handing out candy, or enjoying Halloween festivities, have a fun and safe Halloween!
The MPR News weather team hopes your Halloween is filled with more treats than tricks — and just a few less raindrops!
