Quick Read
Jennifer Carnahan has lost her bid for another term as mayor of Nisswa, a small resort town north of Brainerd.
Carnahan, the former Minnesota GOP chair, lost to business owner Andy Schaefer by about 200 votes.
Carnahan was first elected mayor in 2024. Her term was tumultuous, including a censure vote from the Nisswa City Council in January. Council members were critical of her interaction with a member of the public.
Carnahan resigned as state Republican Party chair in 2021 amid allegations of a hostile work environment and other internal troubles. She moved to the Brainerd lakes area following the death of her husband, U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn, in 2022.
Carnahan also ran unsuccessfully for former state Sen. Justin Eichorn’s seat last year.
