This election, Democrats won back a closely watched Minnesota House seat in an area that has shown a willingness to vote for both parties.

DFL candidate Dan Wilson defeated incumbent Republican Aaron Repinski in a Winona-area district. President Donald Trump narrowly carried the district in 2024, the same year Republicans flipped the House seat after decades of DFL representation.

MPR News host Emily Reese spoke with Wilson about his campaign and what he hopes to address as a state representative.

Wilson said his campaign took a door-to-door approach.

"I spent all of my summer and the last six months chatting with my neighbors about really fun, exciting things and also about things that are really hard," Wilson said. "About homes they can no longer afford, about dropping their health insurance."

"I am looking forward to an exciting time representing folks in Winona because that's what I've been doing for the 20 years I've been in the community," Wilson said.
