MPR News with Angela Davis

Scams don’t discriminate; arm yourself with information

Billions -- yes, billions -- of dollars are lost every year to scammers, according to the Federal Trade Commission. And almost every Minnesota state institution has a page warning against them:

The Attorney General.

The Department of Commerce.

The Department of Human Services.

Even the Minnesota Department of Health.

Scams are common, and a little embarrassing. Hindsight can make the victim feel silly for falling for a fraudster.

On Thursday, MPR News host Angela Davis will talk with three experts about how to arm against scams, be they online, over the phone or even in person.

Guests:

Susan Adams Loyd, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota.

Marty Fleischhacker, senior financial fraud ombudsman and civil enforcement liaison for the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

Phil Sendelbach, detective with the Shakopee Police Department.
