After more than 20 years covering the Minnesota Twins and Major League Baseball for the Star Tribune, La Velle E. Neal III will become a sports columnist at the end of this month. He’s making history as the first journalist of color to write a regular sports column for the 153-year-old paper.
MPR News host Angela Davis talks to Neal and also Tony Sanneh, a former professional soccer player who founded the Sanneh Foundation in 2003 as a youth development and soccer organization in St. Paul. Now it’s partnering with a local college to offer teacher training programs with an eye toward increasing the ranks of teachers of color.
