The start of warmer weather also means the start of tick and mosquito season in Minnesota. Deer ticks, which can carry Lyme disease, are most common in Minnesota between mid-May and mid-July, and mosquito season is from now until September.

In addition to causing itchy or painful bites, these bugs also carry diseases. Host Angela Davis spoke with a vector-borne illness expert and an entomologist about what Minnesotans need to know about ticks and mosquitoes this summer.

Guests:

  • Jon Oliver is an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota and a public health entomologist specializing in ticks and tick-borne illness

  • Scott Larson is an assistant entomologist at the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District, serving the Twin Cities and surrounding counties
