Hilal Ibrahim was volunteering at a Park Nicollet medical facility when her clothing was soiled by blood. The hospital gave her clean clothes, but not a clean hijab, so she went home and decided to make sure that never happened again. That’s when her company Henna and Hijabs was born. Next week she expands her brand to include a high fashion line of hijabs available at Nordstrom.

Fatima Hussein was a girls basketball coach when she noticed that her players were struggling with their hijabs. That’s when she partnered with Jamie Glover — another coach — to design hijabs for active women and girls. Their brand, Asiya, has also taken off, making Minnesota the best place to find the hijab you need and the hijab you want.

Hilal Ibrahim and Fatima Hussein joined host Angela Davis on Monday at 11 a.m. and talked about starting and growing their businesses in Minnesota.

Guests:

  • Hilal Ibrahim is the founder of Henna and Hijabs which makes medical-grade hijabs as well as high fashion hijabs.

  • Fatima Hussein is the co-founder with Jamie Glover of Asiya, a brand of activewear for women seeking modest dress.
