"Buy Nothing" movement is about sharing the wealth

What could you accomplish if you didn’t have to spend money on everyday items or services? That’s what the Buy Nothing project seeks to find out by connecting people through hyper-local gifting and receiving.

Here's how it works: Group members offer up items or services for free. And they ask for items or services they could use. There is a culture of gratitude that's driving the popularity of these groups.

The movement has spread around the world - there are more than 5.3 million members in more than seven thousand Buy Nothing Neighborhood groups - including here in Minnesota.

There are Buy Nothing Facebook groups for almost every neighborhood in the Twin Cities and groups in many smaller cities too. Cathy Wurzer talks with Holly Andersen about the so called “Gift Economy.” Holly is the administrator for the Powderhorn neighborhood Buy Nothing Facebook group in Minneapolis.
