Reporter Debrief: Minnesota lawmakers reach deal on taxes and spending

With one week left in session, Minnesota lawmakers have reached a deal to spend the state’s historic surplus. 

The agreement calls for four billion dollars in tax cuts and four billion dollars in new spending – on education, health care and public safety. It also leaves four billion dollars in the bank, in case of emergency. 

Sunday’s deadline is fast approaching – it will be a time crunch to hammer out all the details. MPR News reporter Brian Bakst joined host Chris Farrell to talk more.
