Wildfire smoke recirculating from Wisconsin and Michigan will affect northeastern Minnesota Tuesday through Wednesday morning. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an alert because of unhealthy air for sensitive groups in cities like Duluth, Hibbing and Two Harbors. The alert includes Grand Portage and Fond du Lac tribal nations.
Leaders in the state legislature joined in a call to ratchet down political rhetoric as they spoke to a national conference Monday. Democratic and Republican leaders addressed the National Conference of State Legislatures in Boston about the killing of former Minnesota Speaker Melissa Hortman. Republican Speaker Lisa Demuth says Hortman’s leadership was an example to follow.
DFL Sen. John Hoffman, who was also shot the night Hortman was killed, addressed the crowd in a prerecorded video.
Two members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation have introduced legislation that would provide millions of dollars to help law enforcement recruit and retain officers.

The city of North St. Paul experienced a cyberattack, just a week after St. Paul announced it had experienced a data breach. According to MPR News partner KARE 11, an emergency city council meeting was held in North St. Paul Monday, where it was announced the city needed to respond to a "business email compromise incident." The council voted to approve a contract with a law firm to investigate the attack.
The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners is considering taking over management the Hennepin County Medical Center in light of financial problems at the hospital. A board of directors, made up of hospital staff and industry professionals, currently oversees the health care system, but commissioners are considering a resolution to dissolve that board as the safety net hospital has experienced an operating net loss for several years.
