Family and friends remembered Fletcher Merkel, one of the victims of the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School at a funeral Sunday. He was described as super active, playing soccer, football, basketball and even sports he invented. The pastor at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church said he was “all gas pedal, no brakes.”
Several dignitaries attended Fletcher’s funeral including Minnesota’s governor and U.S. senators. So did Minneapolis police officers and members of the Annunciation community. Fletcher Merkel was 8 years old.
The family of Harper Moyski has announced details about a celebration of life ceremony for her. The 10-year-old girl was also killed in the Annunciation shooting. Harper’s memorial will be Sunday at the Lake Harriet Bandshell.
A big fire damaged several buildings in Minneapolis early Sunday. The Minneapolis Fire Department says crews were dispatched to 15th and Central Avenues Northeast and discovered a vacant building on fire. The fire at the three-story building spread to two adjacent buildings. No injuries or deaths were reported, but an assistant fire chief says not every building was able to be searched due to the fire and the danger of the building collapsing.
