Early voting starts Friday in Minneapolis mayor, city council elections

Early voting starts Friday in Minneapolis. A mayor and all 13 members of the city council are on the ballot. Fourteen registered candidates are challenging incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey. Candidates opposing Frey argue Minneapolis needs fresh leadership as it faces issues ranging from homelessness to gun violence. Frey says he has helped move the city forward during his tenure.

Federal prosecutors have announced charges against eight people for allegedly defrauding a state Medicaid program. The Housing Stabilization Services Program started in 2020 and it allowed providers to bill Medicaid for services that helped people get into housing.

Minnesota’s unemployment rate last month was 3.6 percent, the highest it's been in more than four years. Still, the number remains below the national rate of 4.3 percent. Officials with the Department of Employment and Economic Development say 5,900 jobs were added to the market last month, with a bulk of new jobs in construction, education and health services.

Public internet access at the St. Paul Public Library is working again, nearly two months after a cyberattack shut it down. Printing is now available and the library says the online catalog and customer accounts are up to date.
