Federal immigration authorities are asserting power to enter private property without a judge’s permission in clear violation of the Constitution. It’s a bedrock of the Bill of Rights. The Fourth Amendment requires law enforcement to have probable cause — and a judge’s OK — before entering someone’s home. But in a May 12 memo obtained by the Associated Press from the organization Whistleblower Aid, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons claims that agents only need an administrative warrant signed by another ICE employee.
Labor unions across Greater Minnesota are calling for a general strike on Friday, to protest the surge in federal immigration agents in the state.
Businesses across Greater Minnesota are joining in tomorrow's ICE Out Day and will close their doors as part of an economic blackout. Meanwhile, a coalition of Twin Cities organizations say they will take part Friday in a peaceful rally and march in downtown Minneapolis. The 100 groups — labor unions, clergy, childcare workers, immigrants and more — will call on ICE to leave Minnesota.
The U.S. House voted Wednesday to lift a 20-year ban on mining near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Democrats and environmental groups say the move could open the door to copper nickel mining and threaten the region's pristine waters with toxic pollution.
