Over the past two months, the federal government’s deployment of thousands of immigration enforcement agents to Minnesota has been disruptive.
Many residents are staying home out of fear of detention and are changing routines around school, work, and health care. Families have been separated, observers have been pepper-sprayed, and U.S. citizens have been detained.
In two tragic incidents, confrontations have been deadly. Renee Macklin Good and Alex Pretti were both fatally shot by federal agents just weeks apart.
State officials are challenging the federal government’s immigration operation in the courts. And they’re pleading with the White House to stop its actions around the state.
