‘Unhealthy’ air quality expected in eastern Minnesota through Monday afternoon due to wildfire smoke

Rain and shifting winds have largely cleared wildfire smoke out of the Upper Midwest — but officials say Minnesotans should be ready for a possible return of poor air quality. Nearly 800 firefighters from across the country are working to contain about 25 wildfires burning in or near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

. This comes after three summers of construction by the Minnesota Department of Transportation to address chronic flooding that would shut it down for days. The nearly $31 million project replaced the Rush River Bridge and built an additional overflow bridge for flood relief.
