NFL players urged a federal judge Wednesday
to deny the league's request to essentially restore the lockout,
saying their careers were at stake. Commissioner Roger Goodell,
meanwhile, said owners were preparing for every contingency.
Seven weeks into the NFL lockout, players
have an early triumph over the owners in court.
U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson ordered an immediate end to the lockout Monday, but the owners immediately filed notice of their intent to appeal the decision.
Ever so gradually, the Minnesota Twins are
finally starting to show signs of the team that was expected to
contend for a third straight division title. A two-run double in the seventh inning that
lifted the Twins to a 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians on
Sunday, Minnesota's third straight win after a putrid start.
