Forecasting floods is complex equation

As temperatures rise and the snow from last week's storm begins to melt, residents and business owners in river towns around the region are getting nervous. When that much wintertime snow turns into water, will it add up to early-springtime flooding?

Officials at the National Weather Service are trying to answer that question this week. Their next flood outlook will be released on Friday. NWS Hydrologist Steve Buan talked to MPR's Tom Crann.
