Futurist Cecily Sommers forecasts space next frontiers

The moon, so long ignored in the field of space exploration, is back in the spotlight again. NASA plans missions to the moon within a decade and, just this month, Google announced a new 'X-Prize' to land a robot on the moon.

The Internet giant will pay $30-million to any private company that can build, launch and land a robotic lunar rover.

Google announced the new X-Prize at the annual WIRED Next Fest conference in Los Angeles. It is one of the largest future-focused events in the world. Minneapolis-based futurist Cecily Sommers was at the conference. MPR's Tom Crann asked Sommers how important space exploration is to scientists and businesses.
