The Ultimate Weather Geeks

They're called Skywarn.

When severe storms threaten, they spring into action. Over 400 trained volunteers around the 12 county metro area scan the sky and report what they see back to the National Weather Service.

They're looking for specifics. Winds greater than 50 mph, 3/4" diameter hail, flash flooding and tornadoes. They are the "ground truth" for what we cannot see on doppler radar.

Today enjoy life behind a cool front. We'll be at least 20 degrees cooler than the weekend. Scattered showers and a gray sky will linger today. The good news is, no severe weather is expected. After a long summer of warnings, the Skywarn spotters are looking forward to some serious rest!
