Ragweed sufferers are breathing easier this morning. We finally hit 32 degrees at Twin Cities International Airport Sunday morning.
This year's first frost held off until Oct. 28, just two days shy of the latest frost on record at MSP since they moved the thermometers to the standard 5 foot above ground level location back in 1960. It came 22 days later than the average, or median frost date of Oct. 6.
The later frost this year is part of a trend, it would seem. Sifting back through the records in the last decade, the only time we had a frost earlier than the Oct. 6 "average" was in 2003, when we hit 32 at MSP on Oct. 1. In fact, it's been 12 years since we had a September frost at MSP, on Sept. 22, 1995!
My annuals still look good in the garden today, and we can all enjoy one more swing in the hammock as Indian Summer weather lingers into tomorrow, before a brisk cold front blasts through the state Tuesday night. We could see 70 degrees from the southern metro south to the Iowa border Tuesday!
Trick-or-treaters will need to bundle up this year. Look for a chilly breeze with temps near 40 Wednesday at trick-or-treat time in the metro.
